Using this filter (Marumi 77mm DHG Solid Neutral Density) on a 70-200mm lens, will you able to make details in the sun?

BTW, does anyone know what makes this different from any other 15 stop filter?

That will work, even at 200mm you'll see the sunspots.  With the proper filter, they will show up as light spots.

Here you go. Far all of your solar filter needs. When the sun is in totality though you can take the filter off to photograph it. If you really want to get into shooting the sun, and its spots then these work great. If you want to try and shoot flares, then you need a whole different set of filters, and at that level it is not cheap.

You can filter correctly and see "details" in the sun any clear day. The eclipse will have the moon blocking the sun. Myself, If I take the trip I'm planning on, I'll do a time lapse of the eclipse....

These filters are done by a local company to me that does great work. The prices are up there but compared to going blind and getting fantastic prominences they are probably the best in the world.
