Help on what camera to buy- Nikon D800 vs d750/ or d610?

6 years 11 months ago #524998 by eskymophoto
Hi There-this morning i dumped my D7100 in the lake while kayaking- words can not describe my devastation- but Its pushed me into researching options for an upgrade. Im looking at purchasing a new Nikon- I just want some advice on which model to go with. I use my camera for work on and off, Im looking at upgrading from the d7100 to the d800, the d610 or the D750. But not sure on which one would suit me better. Price wise the 610 and 750 is more in my range but I want to branch out into doing photography professionally so I was thinking maybe the 800 has more versatility. Any help would be great- thank you

D810 would be my choice, but you'll possibly need a new bag of lenses....

Or wait a bit and pick up the upcoming D850.  You'll need new glass regardless which body you pick up.

Thanks both, I went with the 810- but now I need some advice on some lens- all my reaming are DX and now i need FX for the full frame camera. Any suggestions for a quick, decent zoom/depth of field? I'm thinking the 24-70mm but never sure!

24-70mm is a pretty sweet lens if you want my 2 cents.

I still have my D7100 and I opted for a refurbished D610 due to budget constraints. That said, I shoot mainly macro, thus IMHO the DX format works better for that type of shooting & I'll use the D610 for other avenues in photography. I also own mostly all FX lenses, many are older MF ones or early AF ones, thus lenses are not an issue for me. Personally, I think the older 28-70 mm F2.8 is better optically than the 24-70mm F2.8

Camerachoice depends on the type of photography you prefer to do. Here I have stated few points which will help you in choosing correct camera
For PortraitPhotography - Both Nikon D750 and Nikon D800 are equally good
For StreetPhotography - Nikon D750 is suited more, as it has additional tilting LCD
screen
For Sportsphotography- Go for Nikon D750, as it supports fast continuous shooting
For DailyPhotography- Both seems equally good, only slight difference in weight
For Landscapephotographer-  Nikon D800 has highestscore, as Nikon D800 sensor provides 12MP morethan Nikon D750 sensor which is a major advantage

Good Luck!

Thanks Guys I appreciate the help! Interested in portrait shots, landscape and dog photography so looking for a good all rounder zoom- then a few primes and maybe a wide? Would the 24-70mm be the best go to for an all rounder lens?
