Storing your camera in hotel safe?

No pun intended, but is it safe?

We head off on Tuesday and there will be times when I won't have my camera with me.  Would you leave your camera and lens in the hotel safe in your room?

Nikon D700: 50mm, 14-24mm, 85mm, 105mm 70-200mm, 150-500mm (Sigma), SB-900

I'd leave it with the front desk before the room safes.

Depends on the hotel and the safe. I may use the inroom safe if going down to dinner in the hotel, for example.... but I usually take my gear anywhere I go, if I can't take it into a particular place, I don't go there. A top quality hotel, I'd check it at the desk without reservations....but never without a receipt!

Why so serious?

Agree:

Motel 6:  Heck NO

5 star hotel:  Yes most likely

It actually depends on the hotel and its safety policies. Many a times its safe to store them in room safes.

As everyone else has pointed out, it complete depends on the hotel.

Never.  When I travel I only bring what I can easily care on me at all times.

Nice hotel, I would.  3 stars or less, no.

Unless I'm traveling for a gig, I bring just my camera body and one lens.  That makes it easier to keep on me.  So usually I'll always have my camera with me.  But if I absolutely needed to leave behind, I would leave in the rooms safe.

I often end up feeling safer stowing my gear in the trunk of my car more so than a hotel safe if I can't be around to supervise...
