Macro Practice (Ball-head vs Geared-head)

I will be doing a macro project practice and I am still undecided which one to get, a ball head or a geared head?
Any suggestions based on your experience?

I use and prefer a ball head for all my shooting. Just make sure you get a quality unit, one that is smooth and adjusts with a light touch. I also rather a single knob adjustment for macro, one handed....Its a personal thing, some will like the geared types....

Why so serious?

Okay! +1 for ball head then...

Yeah I too use the ballhead most of the time. It depends on how low the subject is as to whether I use my standard tilt head.

Nice perspective here. I understand! Thanks for this.
