Photographing Rolex watches

6 years 3 months ago #563683 by Joe Vertz
I've been hired by a local watch dealer to photograph their watches for a interactive new website they have coming.  These are very high end watches  like Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, and Jaeger-LeCoultre to name a few.  If you know these watches, there is a ton of detail to these watches, so my photos need to be my 'A' game.

They want photos going around the watches and both sides.  Kind of like the 360 walk around tours you get in homes.

Any tips on how to evenly light these and setup?

Big thanks!

Lots of diffuse light. Lots.

If they want a white background, get one of those little light boxes. If they want black, it's more complex. But there are lots of tutorials out there on lighting shiny objects. Go forth and google.

And congrats on the gig.

You'll need to figure out how to light everything even with same light.  Take your turn table from microwave and rig that up with white bottom, and mark off ticks around edge with hour marks, spin the thing around at 15 min spots.  That should work.  Make sure your camera is in same place.  Should work.

I did that, you need a rotating plate
then you shoot a movie, split into 30 frames or more with after effects and then upload thos image....you need to have of course a web app that will make a video from those 30 shots

Every angle?  That is going to be a pain.  Ian has a pretty solid idea, it could work.  Good luck with this one!
