Sigma 10-20mm or Tokina 11-16 for Nikon D3200?

Being an amateur photographer, I'm looking to upgrade my Nikon D3200 kit lens with a wide angle lens. I'm interested in landscape photography and would not have any problem carrying 2 lenses at a time. Which one is better Sigma 10-20 or Tokina 11-16?

Both get decent reviews, however for me, I would go with the Sigma.  I like that you get a wider focal range out of it.

I looked at both a while back, I would have gone with the Sigma of those choices....

I prefer the build quality of the Sigma.  I don't like how the focus ring feels on the Tokina.  Feels cheep IMO.

I'm going to vote for the Sigma as well.  Love this lens!

Well don't discount Tokina, don't they make lenses for tons of other companies out there?

Which Sigma? I use the f/4-5.6 on my Canon and the results are decent. It is soft near the outer edges.

I'm looking at Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 HSM for Nikon (used one) but most of the forums on internet talk about how auto focus doesn't work on Nikon D3200 while when I ask people already using them they say AF works fine.

What is your reason for shifting to a wide angle lens? If you're looking at landscape photography, your current gear is pretty good for it. Most people underestimate their kit lens. You'll be able to take almost every landscape shot with your 18-55. However if you still need a wider angle, Sigma would be the best option. Since it has HSM, it should autofocus fine on your camera.

Either way, I don't think you'll use AF for landscape shooting too much. The D3200 needs afs lenses, (with internal focus motor) if I remember.....

Are you near a camera store? If so, go in and try the lens out in the store.  If it works and you need AF, great, go for it.

If doesn't work, well there you know.  You can decide either way.

I was planning to buy the old 4-5.6 one which is not available in the market, which is a big concern. I was looking at used ones on a site that lets you buy one directly from seller. Not sure how to check everything related to the lens while meeting the seller for the first time.

It's a DC lens: it's designed for crop sensors (which you can learn about on the Sigma website). It's an HSM lens, which means it has a build-in motor (which you can learn about on the Sigma website). That means it's suitable for low-end Nikon bodies, such as a D3200.

I have that lens but use it on more upscale bodies (D300 & D7100). I like it a lot. Got it on the recommendation of Thom Hogan. Here is a sample image from it...As noted though, your current selection should be just fine...BTW, I did do a slight crop on this image...
