Long exposure error figured out the hard way

5 years 9 months ago #592757 by Matt VanDyke
Sunday I was playing around with new Nisi 10 stop nd filter I picked up.  I was taking longer exposures of slow moving river.  When I got home that evening, all my photos had this strange white artifact showing up in them.  I was clueless on what happened here.

Well I just figured it out, the little shutters on the view finder in the back of the camera weren't closed. I forgot to close it during all my shots!

Ahhh, well I'll need to give this another shot this weekend.  BTW what is that view finder door, window, shutter called?  Also, some of you might know I had a Formatt hitech 10 stop nd filter that I lost and the Nisi was the replacement for it.  For what it's worth, I really don't notice a difference so far.

Viewfinder blocker? There are few of us that haven't learned that lesson the hard way....I usually cover the camera on bright days, night time long exposures when really dark, not so much.

Why so serious?

Yep, if it's bright out, and if you are doing super long exposures, you can get some light leak in from the view finder door.
