How are you dealing with clients that expect you to work for free?

Don't you hate when you hear "This is a great way to build your personal portfolio as people will see your work and want to hire you"?

I don't get to many of these, but I just got another today.  Which makes the 2nd one for 2018.  It takes every shred of decency to politely decline.   The key word here is polite.

How are you handling situations like this?

I tell them that as a business I can only afford to do free shoots 2 days a month.
I already have a standard customer that is a real needy case that fills my civil duties calendar.

I never encountered this because I did commercial work.  I do get requests for more images at times when I post things for sale on Ebay.  I tell them additional images are $10 each.  How many would they like?

I don't have tolerance for nonsense.   So I would have little patience and would send them off.
