Yes, that's exactly what happens.

Greedy states trying to dig into our pockets.  When does this take into effect on your site?

No, it levels the retail playing field, which should have been happening for years now. The web companies no longer need the subsidy of tax avoidance, which, frankly, is helping to destroy local economies.

If you want to have an opinion, I suggest you do some research into the real cost to you, and the rest of humanity, of letting companies like Amazon, Google, and what-not get away with murder. And your money.

And I think Helen mentioned March 1st in her post. There's that reading thing again.

:agree:  while this is an old post, this guy is giving some sound advice.

So do you charge my state
sales tax or NY for that?

I also didn't see the tax being
applied to your page in the sales cart.

While on the subject, even though you are a NY corporation,
why are you and others expected to start collecting tax now?

Because the United States Government said so. Retailers would prefer not to because it just means more work for them, but they don't have a choice.

There is a minimum volume before a website has to collect out of state sales tax and it varies by state.  For most states the minimum required is around $100,000 per year in sales to state residents.

So, since I live in Florida, you can pay our sales tax on Florida's behalf. You will charge their sales tax on behalf of Alaska in the case of everyone in Alaska. Huh?-Huh? Huh? Right? Greedy regimes tend to break into our own pockets . When is that going to take place on your site? The tax on revenue is not 'charged' by Adorama. New legislation entered into effect on March 1st, enabling states to require stores to 'collect' money on their behalf. The amount of tax you will pay
is, therefore, the one paid by Your home address, the state of which your items are delivered, perhaps.
No, if they don't have a store in your province, then you don't have to pay any fee.
Hey, B&H is Just that way.

Adorama does charge sales tax. B&H charges sales tax. Amazon charges sales tax. Olympus charges sales tax. Nikon, Canon and Sony charge sales tax. I have no idea where you are getting your information from, but you are completely wrong. Go on one of these sites and actually complete a purchase. You will find out your answer pretty quickly on whether they charge sales tax or not. Here is a hint. THEY DO.

:agree:   your only chance of dodging tax is finding a small camera store who might offset the tax with discount to get the business. Either way, someone will pay for the tax.

B&H has a store credit card called Payboo. It is through Synchrony (or close) Bank. By using that card, they waive the sales tax. It is still paid but not by you. Saves me 6.5% on my purchases., which is better than the rewards on my other cards.

BTW - I researched this quite extensively and it is not an easy issue. I think they prices the sales tax but not sure about localities within those states that add on taxes. I found one state that had nearly 20 different rates depending on county, city, etc. and it can not be determined using zip code.
