Changing Lens Filters

5 years 1 week ago #639757 by vinceseidler
Hi Everyone,

Does anyone else find the process of changing lens filters on DSLRs annoying and time consuming? For me to switch between ND filters and UV haze filters frequently takes a lot of time.

Just curious what everyones thoughts on this were and if there is a workflow thats good for filming and shooting stills.

Thanks!
Vince

You didn't say, what filters are  you using?

If you are using screw on, try the squares.  If still annoyed, try the magnetic ones.  You have options.

Yes, Neil, Vince did! ;)

You could half your problem by not using
the UV which is not necessary in digital!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Not exactly, he didn't. That's why the question was asked.

English is a stupid language in many respects, allowing for perfectly correct grammatical constructs to be nebulous and imprecise.

He didn't ask what type of filters, he asked what brandand/or form factor was being used.

Back to the OP: I agree with you, and maintain that UV filters are pointless. They might have value at high altitudes, but  I couldn't see any impact at 5000-8000 feet that last time I checked. As for "protection", be careful or use the hood. IMO don't waste your time time with UV filters.

As for ND filters: yes, they slow you down. As suggested, get the magnetic ones if time is of the essence.
