Peter Lik disliked so much?

On another board I belong too, a discussion came up about Peter Lik and his work.  And it was surprising to learn that not many photographers care for him so much.  Questions about his work being unoriginal, over cooked HDR, and composites were all brought up.

I was a little surprised about this.  Do you hold an opinion of the guy?

I didn't know him until you just mentioned him, but just based on a quick Google search, the hate seems to come from accusations of him using composite and photoshopped images and representing them as genuine. There's obviously nothing wrong with heavily editing images if that's your style, but it's a bit off to then try and claim that they are, despite some processing, what came out of camera. I don't know whether he's lying or not, but if he is, that would be the issue rather than the quality of his photography. Obviously he's not going for the natural look with his photography either, which I guess some people don't like.

There is photography and there is imagery; both
are art forms in their own ways.

Light is free… capturing it is not!
