Tips for Finding Volunteer Photographers

4 years 7 months ago #659806 by rleonard
I'm wondering if any photographers can offer advice or tips for finding photographers on a volunteer basis.

Note: This is not an ad. I am NOT looking to scout individuals directly from this forum.  I am simply looking to pick a photographer's brain on how they would best be contacted, found, reached by someone in my situation if they were open to volunteering their awesome skills!

I am involved with a non-profit foundation for children with disabilities or illnesses (very similar to Make A Wish). Each year we fly a large group of children to a certain world-famous theme park for a day of fun. It offers an opportunity to support a foundation for children, get involved in a fun event and build a portfolio.  I have been tasked with finding a volunteer photographer to document this trip.

If any photographers can offer some input into the best method of finding photographers willing to work on a volunteer basis, that would be very helpful!

Go to Meetup.com and search for photography groups. Attend or contact ones near you about your need. You might even contact a group near the theme park, as it would be cheaper without transportation to help you. A local group near me volunteers to photograph parades, etc. with 2-10 photographers participating on a volunteer basis. It would be nice if you paid their way in and bought lunch in return for the help.

Any local colleges, or high schools with photography courses? There's another source.

Why so serious?
