What do you say to "I want to quit photography"?

When a good friend tells you that they want to quit photography.  Do you give them a pep talk or try to buy their gear pennies on the dollar?

I have a friend who has been in photography for 4 or 5 years now.  I had a message from him earlier that was all over the place.  Where at one point he says that he's quitting photography.  Now I haven't spoken to him yet.  I'll be calling him tomorrow.  It's too late today.

There are 2 main points I need to speak with him.  Sounds like the big one is is marriage and the other his work hours.  Technically 3 with photography, however that's not on the same level.

Would you folks on just the 2 main points, and leave photography out of the discussion or address it?

Its not the only thing in life, if your friend wants to shelve photography for a while, why talk him down? If that got in the way of my marriage, the camera gear would be on ebay in a couple seconds.....

Why so serious?

Sounds like he has some more serious matters to deal with.  Be a friend and help him on the serious issues, and if he wants to talk about photography, talk.  If he wants to quit or take time off, respect that.

1) You refer to a symptom, not a problem.
2) You don't know what the problem is, based on available information.

Be a friend and lend an ear. Ask questions, don't tell, don't argue, don't try to convince. Just listen. At most, express any opinion as a choice you would make yourself.

Be supportive and don't worry about the petty things.  Marriage is far more important.  Listen, Listen and Listen.
