G'day Richard

While there are many YouTube + other sources videos on "outback and wacky" exploits from equally wacky people - it is all outside my area of travel (and interest)

While we are on the road in the motorhome each year - generally covering from 20,000 to 25,000 kilometres, 75% of this is sealed roads leaving about 5,000 ~ 7000 Km of dirt roads

Such roads vary a lot in construction and safe road speeds.  Here's one from last year's travels.  Quite safe for 80 to 100km/h travels, but we do regrettably have city-based idiots who want to do 130-140km/h speeds and quite soon come to grief, leaving locals and the Flying Doctor to pick up the pieces

a) The Oodnadatta Track - north towards Alice Springs some 700km away

b) and you can see 'em coming for miles away - as the saying goes

Out for a Sunday stroll!  What sort to day temperatures are you seeing this time of the year?

G'day mate

My home base today is 10 - 21C (about 50 - 70F) and this is mid-winter don't forget  :)
Up in the alpine areas there is snow - a little bit anyway - but for most of Oz we never see snow

The 'worst' winter weather needs me to change footwear from open sandles, t-shirt and shorts to put on a jumper, long trousers and shoes and socks!!

Don't forget to factor in a good suspension on the trailer you are using.  I learned this the hard way long ago.  And many do as well.  Get the best suspension you can and that will make a huge difference  in what gear you have in your trailer.

Thanks again.  What I'm going to be doing is moving some of the stuff that was in the truck, like our suit cases with cloths, and put those into the trailer.  That way I can keep the back of the truck free for camera gear.  My wife will just need to keep her makeup separate.  She was concerned about the heat ruining it.

Are all the National Parks and camp sites open right now?

Hardly.

They are keeping the nps.gov pages updated with current information. I'm seeing state information being kept current as well, at least for Texas and New Mexico.

:agree:  most have a "Covid" disclaimer on top of their page.

It's not just the bumps you need to worry about, it's the heat.  Personally I always keep my camera gear in the truck with the AC on.  Heat can be just as bad as the bumps.

Just my 2 cents.
