Shooting clients in public space - permission needed?

We have been advised that work needs to be done outdoors when possible.  So in areas that would have required city permission, do you still need this permission considering Covid? Shooting a client in a public park for example.

You're going to have to find out about your local ordinances, any suspension thereof, and what locations are affected.

We can't answer this question. It's a local thing.

OK, good point.  I'll reach out or track down someone this week.  Thank you Gary.

Honestly unless you are rolling out a full production group, I'd bet you would likely be just fine.   But good to check with local people to play it safe.

I have a favorite local park that I like to use. It's a local village park with a train ride and a carousel, that is only a few miles away. When I asked about permits, the park management's first question of me was "how many people will be involved.?" When I told them "no more than 3" they said "don't choose locations that will negatively affect the other people using the park. No permit is required for that".

There is only one of my favorite spots in the park that is near the entrance to a pedestrian tunnel, that is in a heavier usage area. Whenever I want to use this location, I just pick times when the park has very few people in it, like early morning or about dinner time in the evening. The light is better there in the early evening anyway, so that is usually when I try to be there. The area that we use is never blocking the tunnel entrance, so I've never had complaints or problems, but a shoot there usually builds an audience quickly.

At most I bring an umbrella or soft box on a light stand with speedlites, a sand bag, and a hand held reflector,, plus the camera, camera bag, and laptop PC, all carried in a collapsible wagon.. This is the most equipment that I have ever had with me when going there, and I frequently only have about 1/2 of that. In the warmer months, a small ice chest for bottled water is usually added to the wagon.

Talk to the park management, not the grounds keepers. Tell them what your plans are, and ask about permits. For smaller parks I doubt you will need a permit, as long as you do generally what I do.

Outdoor photography such a risky work again public space. If need permission at the park security guard. Another hand if you are a government photographer then you do not need permission. It's free for you.

Otherwise, if you if requested a security police officer and duty guard it's another part. Turley, I say to you when you photography please you can take permission. It's better of you and your corporation.
