Why not CFExpress card speeds from SD memory card?

How come we don't have SD cards with speeds like an CFExpress card has?  These cards aren't that much larger.  I think the fastest UHS II card is what 300 MB/s vs something like 1800 MB/s with the CFExpress cards.  Seems like these things could be a little bit quicker?

The actual SD are used in equipment that can't really profit
from faster speed because of their respective buffer perfor-
mance. It would be like having a fast car in my life… no use.

OTH, I have a better buffer in the D850 but its XQD card is
well tuned to its performance needs and I will not update
/upgrade to CFE.
Light is free… capturing it is not!

Should the follower to the D850 have better resolution
and buffer, then possibly.

The electronics matter. Faster devices (transistors) cost more.
USB 2 devices don't have to be fast, due to limits of the bus.
USB 3 devices can be faster, USB 3.1 more so. And SD cards designed for faster speeds cost more.
The interface for SD cards in the camera will be fast enough to meet requirements for the needs of the camera, and the specified parameters of the card. (Although it would be nice if more attention were paid to write speeds....)

XQD/CFE devices are PCI devices (like NVMe SSDs) which allow for a much higher data transfer rate. 

Without the hardware, the memory device can only go so fast. SD cards will never run at those speeds using the current hardware.

And you'll note that the XQD/CFE cards are much more expensive.

Most folks/devices don't need that speed. Even 4K@30fps only writes about 30MB/s, IIRC. That only requires a UHS-1 card.

The huge advantage of XQD/CFE is that it can expand the buffer of a camera, and allow the capture of quite a few images in a row, without pause. I think my D850 (47MP) will capture close to 50 frames in a row without a pause. A D4 will capture many more than that.

I"m kind of rambling here, just tossing out information.
