An App for all seasons!

3 years 3 months ago #706325 by James-Hunt
As a weekend amateur landscape photographer I find it hard to actually plan ahead.

I am searching for a programme / app to make a list of all the places I wish to visit and photograph.

I would also like to have the facility to enter searchable notes & keywords.
e.g. The following day weather forecast is for mist. I enter 'mist' into the search & locations with that term are shown.

Does anyone know of an app at all that can do this?
or use varying apps to the same end?

Many thanks to everyone.

Regards
James

I don't know of any "Ready Made" software that can do this. Even if one existed, I doubt that any of the better remote locations would come pre-installed in it. You would need to go there, at least the first time, to photograph and collect as much data as possible in one short visit to be able to enter into the program. Then over time collect more data about Weather and other conditions there to further complete your collection of data for that location. You would need to do the same for every location that you would want to use. Some data can be collected from Weather maps, but most is going to require you or a friend to go there to collect this data. Phone Aps that provide Sun Rise and Fall times will likely help you too.

I have a similar need, but it's geared more to collecting local shooting sites for future Senior Graduation Photos, Wedding outdoor photos, etc. where I am finding interesting shooting locations, taking a few shots to help me remember them, and then recording pertinent data like geographic location, distance, who to contact for permission, what time of days is best, etc. At present, this is all being entered into a notebook, but at some point I will likely be using Microsoft "Access" or a similar program to create a computer database from it. I'm doing similar for my lighting arrangements within my studio, etc. but of course with much less data needed.

There are many different software database packages similar to "Access" that could be used for this, but they all require you to set them up and enter all of the data organized into some common format that pleases you. All have a learning curve too, and you will likely spend many hours just learning to use the programs. I'm fortunate to have created several databases and learned the software, so doing this for me is going to be much easier than for most people.
