Should VR be turned off at higher shutter speeds?

When shooting birds in flight, and your shutter speed is up high, should the VR be turned off?

Personally, I never use any form of image stabilisation.

In general, I would not recommend its use in BiF photography because
  1. it delays the trigger at crucial moments and
  2. the subject, though often unpredictable, is not flying in a bumpy way.
A good platform made of proper gimbal and adequate tripod will do well.

G'day Kate

I'm different from NS here ...... (but he is probably better looking too)

I do a some BIF stuff and regularly shoot at either 12fps or 30fps depending upon which mode the camera is set to. The VF (or O.I.S. as Panasonic call it) is 'on' all the time, and the camera seems to have no issues with keeping the subject in "pretty good focus" as it goes along. Being 100% honest, sometimes the camera misses focus and they all are crap, but nearly all the time, I get a good collection of beaut, clear images that later on become 'keepers' (Have a sqwiz at my Flickr 2020 library to see some)

Hope this helps

Since I would never have turned it on in the first place, there would be no need to turn it off.  I recommend turning it off permanently.  Invest in a tripod.

You will find that the overwhelmingly majority leave VR on. It's a tool, use it.

Higher shutter speeds make image stabilization less necessary, and for BIF or any sports/action/wildlife shooting, image stabilization doesn't add anything.
