What do you say to a client who is requesting the RAW files from a shoot you did?

Whatever my reply, I would say it in the contract BEFORE the shoot.

Never give RAW files, that is what I've always been told.

Most of the people that think they want them, have no idea what they really are and have no way to view them. I would follow @Razky's statement.

Unless it's agreed on in a signed contract, the RAW files should not be available. They are basically your film records that can help prove that you hold the copyrite on them. I always crop photos slightly to help prove my copyrite ownership for any electronic copies sold too. Give them copies of the original RAW files is like handing them the full right to do as they please with the photos.
