Will Phones ever surpass cameras?

Cameras keep getting better and so do phones. Will phones ever surpass cameras?

I want to say no, but I never expected phones to become this good.
Sometimes I see incredible work on photo sites like Flikr and YouPic, just to see everything was shot with a phone.
I still love to have my full manual control, 5 min exposure or f1.8 or wildlife or bird photography with a 400 or 600mm lens.
Will a phone ever cover that?

Also, how much must we eventually pay for a phone (with a far limited because the lifespan than an SLR) just because of the camera?

I have an older model iPhone. The camera on it is sufficient for me. I never wished for more.

Smaller sensors have their advantages, but they also have their disadvantages, so I'd say no.

15 years ago, could we have imagined phones doing what they do today?  Likely not.  So I'm not going to say no on this question, but will say what phones can and can't do 15 years from now is going to be something interesting.

Only if you add some additional gear, like external lenses.

You could, but then they added extra lenses on the phone.
But I presume they will end up with the perfect set of lenses, then the free market will create extra lenses to fill gaps again.

Man, that will be the day. Imagine heading out with only your phone and taking professional photos and video with something so small?  Yes please!

Specialized devices always do a better job than multipurpose devices.
