Is B&H Photo a good store to buy camera stuff from?

1 year 4 weeks ago #750566 by Opto Fox
I don't know forum etiquette and this is my 3rd post here.   But I have a bunch of questions so if it's fine by you all, I'm posting them.  I'm a beginner photographer if I can even call myself one.  I just bought my first real camera, which is a used Nikon Z6.  But it had no lens.  Google brought me to a camera store called B&H Photo.  Would you happen to know if this is a trusted or good place to buy from?  I bought my camera from a place called KEH.  But then later found better deal for used Z6.  So kind of bummed about that.  So for my lens, I'm asking first before I buy.

Thank you for the help

B&H has some history from a while back, but has dissolved those things as I understand.  Personally I buy from Amazon or Adorama.

True. They resolve them whenever they become public.

I prefer Adorama, but usually buy from them through Amazon because of Amazon's free return policy for Prime members. Adorama's return policy is good, but you pay the return shipping when you buy direct from them. If I wasn't so far away I would likely be going to their store, especially when buying something expensive, because I prefer to see, touch, and feel the expensive things before I buy, be it camera gear, cars, jewelry, etc. You can't do this when buying through the internet from anywhere.

When you say you found a "better deal" on a second-hand Z6, I assume you saw one advertised for a lower price than you paid from KEH. If so, unless you also bought the cheaper one and compared the two, you have no way of knowing which was the "better deal."
I don't know about cameras, but over the years I've purchased second-hand lenses and accessories from B&H and KEH, and the only problems were three times B&H sent a different item than I ordered. Their customer service was superb, so in the end I couldn't complain. Never a problem with KEH.
I once ordered two second-hand lenses from Adorama, advertised as in excellent condition. Both were absolute junkers. They did refund my money and paid for return shipping. That was some years back - maybe they're honest now.
The bottom line is, buying second-hand is a crap shoot - you're depending upon the seller's evaluation when you order, and your own evaluation once you receive it. Any reputable seller will offer a decent warranty/return policy. Good luck!

Eh,  they have had issues, but they do offer good service.  I buy from B&H or Adorama.

I’ve bought from them, but not in a few years.  Adorama, KEH and MPB have gotten my business.  Oh yeah and Amazon.  But not as much as the others.
