Organizing a monthly photo walks, do I need permits?

I've always wanted to set up monthly photo walk, something I would post on Meetup and Craigslist and just have preset up locations we walk around with our cameras and snap away.  Two birds one stone:  socializing and taking photos.  Not planning on going in any buildings, just walking around on pre thought out course each time.  Would legally need any special permits for something like this?

I think you will need to check on the local laws and regulations to find this out.

I had belonged to a Meet-Up photo group in the Charlotte, NC area that frequently held photo walks around various parts of the Charlotte area, and as long as the walks were just a few (usually 4-10) photographers and only on public sidewalks and public park areas, there was never a need for a permit.

If the group becomes very large and disrupts the usual flow of people in any way, you will likely be told to "move on" by a policeman though. A "Pro Photo or Video Shoot" with equipment and support personnel blocking an area for an extended period of time will always need a permit or "permission" though, if held in a high use area in most cities.

The police will know if you need a permit, and who to see for the permit.

+1 check with laws around where you are at.  Chamber of Commerce should be able to help you out
