Client paid for half of gig back in 2019, what would you do?

I had a client in Nov 2019 who decided to pay for half of their engagement and wedding package.  We all went out for the engagement shoot, where I spent nearly a half day with them.  They were very particular on the shooting location and when we arrived, there was all sorts of tourist around and they wanted to wait.  They actually thought they would push the shoot off till spring, well then as you guessed, Covid hit.  Yet they told me we would push till after the pandemic.  I kept in contact with them.  When pandemic lifted, I tried to see if they wanted to finish up the engagement shoot and discuss the wedding.  I kept getting brushed off.  I've been calling them nearly every two months, I have offered to minus my hourly from the original money they paid and refund.  I have offered this a few times.  I keep getting told to hold onto the money.  Well it's now over 4 years, and like many, I have raised my rates a couple times.  This was decent size gig to start, but these days, I would be charging a lot more for this.  

What would you do here?

Perhaps have a sit down with them and find out if they would like to use the funds for another job, or just put the funds in cashier check and send back to them with signature request.  Honestly, I'm kind of on the fence about this as well.

It's been long enough since the pandemic. Weddings got postponed but I'd think they've been rescheduled or held by now. Doesn't sound like they want to do this anymore.

Depends on what your contrat says but I'd think it would specify to keep the deposit if the wedding's not being held (or they've found another photographer by now). You've contaxted them enough times; I'd move on.

I'd drop it. You showed up to work when they asked. They called it off. They got what they paid for. If they want you back, you could consider what they already paid as a down-payment for your services at your current rate.

Absolutely the same, move on, keep record of your calls, emails and any sort of discussions you have had with them.  If they do call in, work things out then.
