I thought point and shoot cameras were dead?

I was just in Target over the weekend, which isn’t odd, but I honestly don’t remember the last time I went into Targets electronic section.  That I did during this visit and was surprised to see a number of point and shoot cameras.  Really?  I thought these died off a few years back.  Most of the cameras Target had were all point and shoot cameras.

So what’s the deal, are these camera having a come back or had I read the headlines wrong all that time ago?

Point-and-shoot cameras are still available in the market, although their popularity has declined with the rise of smartphone cameras. However, they continue to serve a niche audience and offer features that some users prefer over smartphone photography.

Sensor size of the point and shoot is still a lot larger than that in a iPhone right?

Some just want a camera for being a camera.  Meaning keep your phone in your pocket and use the camera as a camera.

My mother carries a point and shoot in her purse.  She loves that camera.  I want to say that is a Sony or Canon.  I should really know this, but I can't recall which it is.

Nothing is ever dead in photography world, not at least with cameras.  Look at Polaroid or film cameras as prime examples.
