Street photography comes alive when you train your eye to single out a composition that has something to say from amid the busy goings-on all about you. It has little to do with your equipment.

According to Wikipedia, "Street photography uses the techniques of straight photography in that it shows a pure vision of something, like holding up a mirror to society. Street photography often tends to be ironic and can be distanced from its subject matter, and often concentrates on a single human moment, caught at a decisive or poignant moment."

Go to Wikipedia and follow some of their links to some well-known street photographers and see what they do. Then take their ideas, but turn them into your own work with your own inspirations.

I photographed a stretch limo on one of the poorest streets in New Orleans a few months ago. I also like to look for iconic business symbols in unexpected places. Like finding a McDonald's wrapper in my yard, a Winchell's Doughnut box in the gutter, things like that.
