I have a question about lenses that are made for small sensor cameras DX vs FX sensor?

Now I don't have any FX/Full frame camera lenses but was wondering what is the difference between the two? Will using a full frame sensor lens on a small sensor camera work? Will you get sharper photos?

As far as i know, you can't use full frame sensor lenses on a small sensor camera. Two different mounts. Now I could be wrong, I'm not prefect. :)

There is no difference in mount sizes, they will work.

I see from your profile you have a D5000, and there's certain lens compatibility limitations.

Basically, you can put any Nikon lens on your camera regardless if it's FX or not. But, you will lose autofocus capability unless it's rated as an AF-S lens.

NIkon's homepage outlines everything in a chart:

About your pictures being sharper, maybe...just slightly. Using FX lenses on a DX body uses more of the center portion of the lens glass which is brighter and sharper than the corners, widely known as "the sweet spot".

I wouldn't get FX lenses for this reason though. Get them incase you choose to move up to a full frame camera :beerbang:

You learned though, and that's never a bad thing.
