The good Doctor is right, Ansel Adams would be a Photoshop master today. Have you ever seen his moon over Half Dome in Yosemite? It's impossible to capture that shot, he burned in the image of the moon for sure.

Photoshop is as much about photography today as the camera. Great artists for centuries composited images. When Van Gogh went out sketching, he would sketch a tree he liked in one place, a hay bail in another, an unruly sky in another then a rural landscape. In his studio he'd put them all together and a masterpiece was created. Was that cheating? What makes a truly great artist and a photographer is knowing what goes together and what doesn't. Van Gogh did it with sketches layered together, we do it in Photoshop. Art is art, whether you did it with one shot or ten.

:agree: Profound.

Cheating compared to what? Shooting film? painstakingly stippling a photo-realistic scene half a micron at a time with a pen tip only comfortably seen with an electron microscope?

Yes. I like cheating. I like it a lot

All good points, I think Photoshop is a necessity to any photographer.

Is a woman cheating when she puts on makeup and does her hair in a more attractive style. Is a man cheating when he breaks out the Grecian 2000? It's all enhancement.

Well I love Photoshopping and Photochopping when it is in good fun. Back when I used to develop and print my own photos. I would make adjustments in the lab to get the photo right. Photoshop is no different. Remember yoou will not get it fully right most of the time. The idea is to get it as close as perfect when shooting and then do minor tweaks to finish up. What I hate to hear and I have heard it from people is, I can PS that out later, to me that isnt the point of the exercise in getting a shot. I might be old fashioned on that one though.
Photochopping on the other hand like Ninjas example is what got me into PS anyhow. I love to manipulate photos for fun and go to some forums where people request the chops. It is good fun to me.
