How to get good high ISO pictures?

13 years 1 month ago #42264 by Kevinallway
I always seem to end up with underexposed pictures when i shoot no flash high ISO images.
I've tested using ISO 3200 at night and it looks horrible, but when i use a flash to get correct exposure (as a test) the noise level is much lower.
How do I shoot high ISO and get a good picture?

One of the biggest keys to getting less noise in a high ISO image is proper exposure. If you are underexposing and then having to adjust the exposure later, you are just making the noise that much more noticeable.

The D40 doesn't handle high ISO's well. Either use flash or upgrade to a newer camera that handles high ISO's better

:agree:
But you can try say your Exposure Compensationand making it shoot one or two stops toward OverExposure.

Using the exposure compensation feature simply changes shutter speed/aperture/ISO settings & as such isn't necessarily a viable alternative in this instance . Really need to know what conditions the photos are being taken under to really give any other advice (daytime, nighttime, etc & why the need for the high ISO to begin with)
