What is the smallest yet usable DSLR Camera -Nikon

13 years 1 week ago #48409 by One Wish
My wife wants to play around with camera but I know she wont be doing as much as me. So I need something small for her to use, but when she isn't using I will use. Currently I have a D90 and D200. The D200 is kind of beat up and could use a replacement.

So what is Nikons smallest DSLR that packs a nice punch?

So what is the smallest DSLR out there any way?

the smallest is usually the lowest level camera. In Nikon's case it's the D3000

Nikon's answer for that is about to change. There are persistent rumors that Nikon is close to releasing a new "mirrorless" design. To compete with Sony SLT-series, etc. No telling yet if it will take current Nikon lens designs directly, or require an adapter.

Other mirrorless types are the Panasonic G-series and Samsung NX10/11. All of which are a little more compact than the usual Nikon D40/3100 platform.

mirrorless cameras...wouldn't that be a down grade? Just like mirrorless lenses are down grades.

I wonder if many of these rumors got shelf-ed with what happened with Japan?

Maybe delayed a bit. I doubt they would completely halt a major project.

For now as Crystal said it is the D3000. But yes the EVIL type will be but, that probably wont come out till the end of the year or the early part of the next due to the quake and tsunami.

I thought their small camera manufacturing wasn't effected?

But their R&D is in Japan so it is affected. Not to mention the tooling plants for the newer models.

The smallest need not be the lowest level camera my friend. Here is the smallest highest level camera in the world - the Pentax K-5. Or the older Pentax K-7 at almost half the cost of the K-5.
Of course I quote US prices where cameras and most things are the cheapest in the world.
In my (6) months stay in the UK I was shocked at the prices of cameras, electronics etc.
