Odd ball question, but what's the difference between a composite image and a photograph?

It depends who you are talking to.

The dictionary definition of "photograph" is pretty vague, and could include composite images as long as at some point light sensitive materials or devices were used.

A composite image is an image or photograph made using two or more images or photographs.

You can take multiple images on one frame, in the camera, post processing allows for better control, if you define a photograph as in camera it still would not exclude a composite image.
If you use filters, or back drops, unnatural lighting or stage a photograph aren't you preprocessing?
A photograph is a art medium much like clay, or oils. A composite image is a type of photograph.
Photo journalism is the only case I know of where altering a photo is not accepted, but that too is an art in its self.

a photograph is a single image, while a composite is a group of images.
