Question about Nikon and Canon metering modes?

I'm a Nikon shooter and was wondering if Canon metering system is the same as Nikons? Does Canon have "Spot,Matrix, and Center Weighted" meter?

If different, what are they called?

Pretty similar. In addition to Spot, Canon also has their Partial metering, which is simply a jumbo sized spot. Canon calls their version of matrix metering "Evaluative". While the principle is the same, it's safe to assume that the details of the processing are different. Within the Canon community there is an interesting split of opinion on metering. Everybody recognizes that Spot is the go-to mode for the most tricky situations. But some insist on the Center Weighted type for general metering. Seeing its simplicity as a guarantee of stability. Others much prefer Evaluative, as a modern replacement for Center Weighted. Partial doesn't seem to get much love, though I use it often myself.

Mr Cook has it. The only difference is really in how they write the algorithums that do the actual metering. Some like Canons and others like me like the Nikon approach.
