Here's one to ponder

Post up your thoughts on this one. We all know the sensor and internals are all square shaped inside the camera right? Remember those kid toys of round peg goes in a round hole, square peg goes in a square hole and so forth? So why does a square sensor and mirror go into a round lens? Why not a square lens? Wouldn't that be easier from a engineering stand point? Now granted it would be awkward to hold, but it does seem like it would be better suited? Just curious question.

Square aperture would not work.

I'm sure engineers could figure out way to make it work, but is it practical? I doubt it.

I would assume were it to be possible to make a rectangular lens, there'd be tons of distortion in the corners. Take a look at something with a square magnifying glass versus. a round one, and you'll see what I mean. A square lens barrel (block?) would give some really distracting background blur too.

I'm sorry but why? I'm making hand gestures to mimic a square lens, weird.

Square lens? LOL I don't think people would ever go buying a square lens when round ones are available.

Imagine that! A square lens. I'll stick with what I have right now.

I figured this would be a fun thread. What? No one wants a square lens?

How about a circular sensor and a square lens?
