I have been using My Publisher ( www.mypublisher.com ) exclusively for 5-6 years. I've done 22 books with them including one in white leather for a wedding. I've been very pleased. They have made continuous efforts to improve over the years. For example, when they first started, the only choice for page color was white. Now, you can choose between white, dark grey, black and a range of pastels. Their software (which is free to download) has also been improved in terms of stability, increased options for page formats, an increased range in book formats (they now offer four sizes and several types). A couple of years ago, they added book jackets. To do a 21 page book (I always go with an odd nuber of pages so the last page is not blank) costs about $31. Add $5 for the book jacket and $6 for shipping/postage and you get a total cost of about $41 (which is a bit high; especially when I sell the books for $45). However, here's where the fun comes in. Just about every other month, MyPublisher runs some type of sale--buy one and get one free, 40-50% off orders over $100, Valentine Day, Mother's day, Father's Day, etc. When you factor these in, your cost per book drops down to between $24-$27. Also, if there are ever any problems (and I have had some, particularly early-on when their software didn't have spell checker), they will replace the books for free. Their turnaround time from date of uploading to the books coming in the mail is about 4-5 days with normal postage; and they have great customer service. Several other companies do a good job with books including Blurb, MPIX, to name a few although I don't have any direct experience with them. See if you can get hold of a copy of Popular Photography from about two or three months ago, they did a comparative analysis and rating of about 8-10 companies that publish books. There were three or four companies that were grouped together at the top (including MyPublisher). There is one thing that MyPublisher does that I still have some problems with a bit. They post your books online on their password protected website. You and/or your customers can order books from here. However, if your customers order the books here, you don't see any of the money. So, I don't give out the web address for this page to my custmers. One last thing, I searching for contacts on publishing books in China as a way to get my costs down signifigantly. Then, I'm approaching Wallmart and maybe Amazon. I can't do that when I'm charging $45 per book.
