Multiple focus points

I've heard some cameras have multiple focus points. How does this work? Does that mean different areas of the frame can be in focus at once?

Some camera if set to auto aperture, will use the information from the different focus points to help set the aperture for the best depth of field for a static scene.

Personally I seldom use the 51 focus zones I have available. I'm a control freak.

No matter how fast I go, there's always someone slower in front of me.
