Using gradient neutral density filters with landscape photography?

13 years 5 months ago #5394 by Casey T
OMG I'm shopping around at some gradient neutral density filters and there are so many! I was recommended these will come in handy. But how do you pick which one?

There are hard and soft edge 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and even reverse 2 and 3 stop filters?

Whew! I need a drink to make this decision.

Help please ;)

I would go with a 2 and 4 stop soft edge and 2 and 4 stop hard edge

Try & get the "Cokin" style filters & holder (square 4X4 filters) as with them you can place the separation where ever in the composition that it needs to be. With the round screw in filters, you have to adjust you composition to fit in where the separation occurs. Get the glass filters, not the resin as they are better optically. They cost more, but are well worth it.

These are pretty good filters. They have good customer service and warranty. Last year I had one in my back pocket and sat down and it cracked. I called Cokin up and told them the truth that I had sat on it and could it be repaired? They told me to send it in, and they would send me a new one. That is excellent service if you ask me.
