Lightsphere diffuser

How durable are these things? I see you can collapse this over and over again. Have any of you had issues with it cracking from doing this over and over? I'm thinking about getting one but wondering if this is a design flaw?

I have the Gary Fong collapsible. It is very durable,I really haven't collapsed it much though, it is rubbery so can't see it cracking. I really like it though for soft light and I just got a grid for it.

My issue with this unit is that it spreads the light 360 degrees & thus you lose flash distance from your speedlight. It's OK if you have an extremely powerful unit with a high guide # to compensate for the loss of light but not if you don't

that isnt really a problem scott I just put a piece of foil covering the rear third of the diffuser and hey presto more light travels forward, cheap and simple

Isn't there some control with something to block the light?

I have one of these, but only have used it a few times. It does give some nice soft light, but as stated earlier, you can't control the direction much.

:agree: But, in close quarters, it is excellent. I used it covering a reunion in a small hall, and every shot was perfectly exposed, with even, soft light. There is a reflective insert that will throw more light forward, and is useful for shooting from greater distances, but no too great.

Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Plastics.
