I'm agreeing with SN here. Shoot just an hour or so earlier while there is just a touch of light in the sky to get some separation on the darker buildings (and the bridge areas).

This Broadmoor shot was in the middle of a 12 exp roll, using a tripod and a cigarette to calculate exposures -- al la Brassai. Earlier ones were too light and later ones too dark. They used the image in a Christmas brochure. Shot with a Hasselblad 503, Fujichrome 100, exact settings unknown (small ap, long shutter speed):

The bridge shot was at just after dusk around 9:30 pm and the second one at 1:30 am to get a calm river for the reflections. Thanks for the tip as I will try to get in place earlier the next time that I go down to the riverfront to shoot.

I actually prefer the first one without too much "pop". Or maybe not go as far with #2.

Better though.

What would you think of using a mask not to blow the color in the water eflection on the left? Beautiful capture.

since I don't use photoshop I don't know if it's possible in Picasa.

To the dudes complimenting my storm picture: Thank You.

It was actually one shot with very little PP done to it. It took me about 15 minutes (at 1am) to get the shot. I was very happy when I finally timed it right. If I had a lightening trigger (see sponsor link below) my life would have been much easier.

Now enough detracting from Rob... ;)

It's OK, but I think the sky's got more neon than the city.

Not sure what Picassa can do (maybe try GIMP). But I suggest toning down the sky a bit.

Here's a quick edit to show you what I mean.
