I carry a standard 1 1/2" paint brush with natural bristles (says "Pure China Bristle"..but it's made in the USA) to dust off the camera body frequently...not for the lens. Best investment I've made. I've had the same brush since the 1980's. In addition to duct tape (hope the inventor got the Nobel Prize in chemistry) I carry dental floss (and a large needle). It simply won't break and it's great for sewing up stuff you don't want to come undone, like your camera bag.

I carry a role of gaffers tape, comes off easier then duct tape. I also carry a disposable shower cap like they give you in hotel rooms. It's in a very small package and comes in handy to cover the camera if sudden rain showers come up.

somewhere in there is a colaspable cup, a multi tool, spare cellphone battery, and the cut off bottom to a plastic 7up bottle with a hole cut in the center...you never know when you might want a cheap, disposable "spot filter"

I carry sunscreen and a mini tripod sack type thing that can be propped up on almost anything. And I carry a garbage bag a golf towel, a poncho, a compass, bug spray, umbrella, hand warmers... That's all besides batteries, camera and lens'!
