I don't necessarily need to meter the shadows and the highlights anymore, because I'll be able to see where they fall after a test shot. For as much as I used to gripe about digital, this working with my eyeballs thing has turned out pretty sweet!

Well I sometimes use A or S if Im feeling particularlly lazy that day and want to keep it simple. On my D300 I know that for bright scenes in Aperture it tends to over expose in my opinon so I drop the effect by 2/3s of a stop and it is happy. I use the Shutter Priority when I know I will be shooting action and want to freeze action. Though when using S you may have to adjust your ISO if the shutter speed gets too low for that. The thing is learn what your camera does in each of those modes by experimenting with them and seeing what works. I find every digital camera I have had has its own little happy spot for the correct exposure. Im still playing with my camera really to see what it will do inside and outside perfect exposures.
