How does the Sigma flash compare to a Nikon flash?

I'm looking at this Sigma flash: "Sigma EF 500 DG Super Flash for Nikon SLR Cameras" and wanted to know how does this compare to a Nikon flash like the SB 600 or SB 800?

Sigma makes some pretty good lenses, I haven't heard much about their flashes. Seems much better priced than the Nikon flash.

I don't find the Sigma to be the same quality as the Nikon units. Also, I don't believe you will have the CLS capabilities, which is a reason I shoot Nikon to begin with.

Why so serious?

I would recommend the Nikon flash by far, if you are working on a budget I would look for a used SB600 or SB800 on ebay, craigslist, keh or usedcamera's.com. This will be a much better flash for you.

LOL I didn't know Sigma made flashes, I thought they were just lenses and cameras. News to me.

I agree this would be a great way to save some money and get a great flash.

I haven't experienced THAT flash by in my experience Sigma flashes will have less feature and be poorer made than the Canon/Nikon alternatives. They'll do the same basic job though.
