What drives you to be a better photographer?

12 years 10 months ago #93135 by Johnnie
With all of my photography, it's has always been "me". Selfish Yes, but if you're not doing that, can you ever be completely be happy with your photos?

So tell me ... what drives you?

Something deep inside as I don't make money at this yet :) I put the camera aside for a decade and suddenly the need to capture things came back. I missed the butterflies and flowers I guess. My eye finally saw things uniquely again.

Same thing with me, I use to take photos all the time, put my camera away for awhile then my friends decided to start a photography class that still meets after 7 years, they mentored me and I started seeing the world differently. They got me into joining the Pro groups and entering print competitions where I actually have excelled beyond my dreams. But, I still feel I'm not worthy, I lack confidence and think, What am I doing among these pros? But it makes me strive to be better.

... I am new into photography... self-taught kinda'. When ever I saw an impressive picture/s, with different styles and techniques from other Great Photographs and Enthusiasts... somehow, that inspires me to learn the techniques and take better pictures>>> I guess you GUYS here in PT are part of what drives me to be a better one... :) (can't call myself a photographer, yet.)

I'm self-taught and self-driven with lots of feedback from other photographers including the folks here at PT. When I first got into photography, I was looking for something that combined the creative with the technical; something where I was constantly learning; and something stimulating and enjoyable. Photography was and continues to be a great selection. Digital has taken it to the next level and opened new areas to be learned.

The hope that someday I might make some serious money at photography. But till that day I am motivated because of the piece of mind it gives me from taking a photo.

We all know how quickly the good times in our life come and go. My title, "The Time Capturer," is self explanitory. I use my images, not just to capture moments in time, but by combining them with text, creating an illustrated story that captures "events" in time.

My drive is to have the ability to capture more images that, in themselves, tell a story. I think that's my ultimate goal as a photographer.

Good topic, Johnnie

Sure, practice makes perfect but, unless you learn from your mistakes, you are only perfecting your ability to fail.

I like this subject...let me see...

For me it is trying something new with the camera & see what comes of it. I'll never call myself a master at photography, as I will always be learning something new in photography. I see images, whether it be a drawing or another photo & try to make it more unique. So I guess seeing other peoples work is also an inspiration for me.

The "perfect " hockey shot is what drives me to continue on season after season, that and my editors need for articles and pix to go with them  Seriously though it is the need to express my creativity and continue the family traditions started by my Dad. I have grown up with photography and can't imagine my life without it

Photography is magical. Just think, we can imprint a thin slice of time onto a thin slice of sensor and transfer that onto any number of other thin mediums. If you hold it up to the light edgewise there is nothing left but the magic and the light.

As I explained to an eight year old last Christmas... If you take a good photo with me it will last a long time. This image of Santa and you might live on your mantle the rest of your life and be enjoyed by your children and their children.

My insanity is the main driving force... :woohoo:

Just to improve my photos, I like to look back at what I thought was a great photo I took years ago and compare that to photos that I take now. My perception of what is good from not is always maturing.

I simply love photography. I see a shot and think 'Wow, wonder if I can do that?'
Most times i fail but that doesn't keep me from trying.

My Dad had a great love of photography as well, I think that is why I love it.

Don't pi$$ me off, I am running out of room to store the bodies...
