Will this work? Manfrotto magic arm with camera and flash on rear curtain sync?

12 years 10 months ago #98137 by John Ledder
I was just thinking if I took a Manfrotto magic arm and fastened it on a super clamp that connected to my bikes handle bar. At the other end of magic arm would be camera with flash on it. The flash would be set at rear curtain sync. Now if I set the camera on timer, slow shutter and started riding the bike down trail, would I be clear and in focus and the back ground blurry?

Could this work?

Rear curtain sync is not required to do this. It won't make a difference in this situation. Too long of a shutter speed will allow too much ambient light and your image will have a ghost due to your movement. If the body movement is not a lot, then the ghosting would be minimal and should look pretty cool.

Well it also has to do with what time of day it is too? If it's close to dark that might work?

No is right, no? Just can't be too bright. Use a low ISO and the smallest ap, in Av (or A) mode.

You may also want to look at filmtools.com and msegrip.com for what the pros use for mounting camera's to bikes.

HTH :)

Filmtools is having a sale on C-47's:
