Where do topics go when they die?

I have noted the number of "topics" listed for a while. Is there some reason the numbers go down occasionally?
1/23 1380
1/24 1367
1/25 1419
1/29 1387
2/3 1545
2/4 1511
I know the oops in the site update lost a few that day but just curious about the "Rise and Fall of the Topic Count". Sounds like a good name for a book - or a band.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I believe what you are looking at is the thead # when it was originally posted? That doesn't change, so if you go to older post you will see a much smaller number?

Looking at the "topics count" in the left about the table not the individual thread. Right above the "Recent Topics". Right now is says 1521 topics, a gain of 10 so far today which looks right.

I have this theory. There are only so many questions that can be asked. But once we ask them, we give them life. They're smart enough to know when people have temporarily lost interest in them, so they take themselves away to a sort of limbo waiting room where they gather around and drink and smoke and make jokes until some new photographer comes along to reinsert them into the real worl for another couple of revolutions!

:goodpost:But I figured out the answer to my own question. I was looking at the thread count for the "Latest'. After 1 month of no activity, they drop off thie list. Duh :watching:
