Anybody who is driven into an end-piece stanchion, as Max Pacioretty was by Zdeno Chara on Tuesday night, is in jeopardy of suffering the same frightening result: a possible career-ending injury. And, given that players are growing stronger and faster and force equals mass times acceleration, someone propelled a little more quickly and unluckily into that same stanchion could, conceivably, die.

So let’s retrofit what “hockey play” means and, while we’re at it, let’s call in the engineers to redesign the way the protective glass suddenly ends at the players benches, fronted by a metal post that absolutely throbs with menace … as did that metal post on the Whistler luge run. Habs fans like me agree completely I have seen some hits into the glass that have rendered players unconscious but never quite like what happened to Max- and I photograph hockey at the ECHL level

I agree that these hits need to stop, but why are these threads labeled NBA and all contain ad links?
