including this comment:
There are situations when it’s acceptable, and perhaps even encouraged, for pros to shoot on auto. While we’re certainly not going to argue that professional photographers should rely solely on the automatic settings of a camera, we would like to be devil’s advocate in this case to point out a larger truth. Often, overanalyzing can get in the way of a shot, or as a famous mantra to the Hindu god Ganesha says, “Oh my lord of lords Ganesha, kindly remove all obstacles, always and forever from all my activities and endeavors.”

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I paid for that auto function and I'll use it when I please... But I might deny it in conversation with a bunch of pros... LOL

That was a good article. The times are a changin' and they always will. I wouldn't be surprised if cameras didn't come with a setting that not only would bracket your exposure but also include an image made on auto. Just to be sure.

Put me down as an "Agree".

And I was marveling at some of the features of Picasa - automatic red-eye detection and correction and facial recognition. Almost scary for free software :woohoo: . A friend who is a clown (the real dress up / balloon type) said it had matched some of his friends in and out of costume. NCIS and CSI, here we come.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I'll throw it on "auto" when I give the camera to my wife to take an occasional photo, but I don't use it. I will use the Program setting every so often though. Since much of my shooting is macro & the camera I use doesn't meter with the older manual focus lenses I use, auto isn't an option. That's when it's imperative to know what you are doing in order to get the shot.

Let's see. Old lenses, new camera, old photographer. Old wins. :toocrazy: Sorry, couldn't resist.

I will use auto every once in blue moon, when a hand the camera to someone else, self portraits with timer, or just when I'm feeling lazy. I think many articles like these are meant to stir up peoples ego's and emotions.

P mode maybe.

But full Auto?!

May it never be! If you need full Auto, please don't call yourself a pro.
