Just looked this up, I like the idea but wonder what happens when it gets dirty. Will it still extend correctly or get stuck?

What is the weight difference between this one and the other one Manfrotto makes?

I own one, used it once and not again. It's good in theory, but it's much too heavy and inconvenient for me.

IF you use a monopod a LOT and like to move it up and down a lot, then buy one, otherwise I'd go for something lighter.

(I don't use monopods that much though, so YMMV).

The weight for this one is '1.1' lbs. As this stage wasn't looking at the weight as primarily want to know it's performance.

Only the top section can be raised or lowered by pressing the trigger handle; release, and it locks in position. The lower two sections have a twist lock action for additional height adjustment. The top plate has a dual 1/4" - 3/8" camera fixing screw.

I don't think performance will be affected, if dirty. I am sure an owner will surely keep it clean ;)

Have never used a monopod earlier; but somehow feel that they come in handy when in a tight spot / space and a tripod cannot be used. Useage will not be frequent though.

Am looking at the 190XPROB tripod and wondering whether this should be my first investment before the monopod.

I have a Manfrotto monopod and use a monopod almost all of the time. believe Adrian when he talks about the weight factor and the performance of the autopod. It just isn't that much of an issue to readjust a monopod. the manual adjust pod is light weight aluminum and is sturdy- I've had mine for 15 years and it works great. I keep it in the car for all kinds of shooting situations

:agree: I use monopods frequently (always carry one when a tripod would be impractical), and adjusting the top section, which is what you would usually do, is just as easy as working the auto. So it does seem a needless fussiness. You should decide whther a tripod should be your first prioriyt by asking where and in what conditions you shoot nost often.
