Heavy duty Tripod advice

4 years 8 months ago #653656 by Pappabear
First post here guys, thanks in advance.  I want a heavy duty tripod and want the extra weight to hold steady for outdoor use in high winds.  I don't need a carbon fiber super sturdy and super light for carrying.

Just want a heavy , quality tripod.  Budget is around $300.  Was considering the Manfrotto 055

Any advice or other suggestions appreciated.

The 055 is a light weight in the all-type of tripod. At 1,4m, it
is pretty short too without centre column and shaky with it.

My suggestion would be the 058 B. That guy, for some bucks
more will get you through a hurricane and last you a lifetime.

It's centre column is rock solid and stable. I got two of them
since 30+ years.

This is NOT an alu-tripod like he repeats all the time.

At 13+ kg, it is steel.

You don't need heavy, you need sturdy, and you add weight to it in the field: your bag, a plastic bag you fill with rocks, etc. There's a reason people us CF and still get good shots.

That little hook at the bottom of the center column of some units is for hanging things.
