Going to be doing some traveling and don't want to lug around my big tripod, would like something small to fit in back pack please. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm packing a Manfrotto 785B. It was one of the first things I checked when I got my Canon 60D. While I doubt this is a full frame camera it does work with the large size/weight of the camera along with a 18-270mm zoom. I'm not sure it will lock down much more than that but that's what my larger Manfrotto is for. It fit in the bottom of my backpack horizontally (under 18") and straps nicely to the new sling bag I just got.

It stretches out by extending the five leg segments and center pole to a comfortable 59.25 inches. Go here to see more of this little gem.

Nice camera bag. I have the same exact one. lol But I barely use it anymore. Since I bought the 50-500mm, I can't carry all my gear.

I was just looking at the Vanguard Nivelo 204BK. Supposed to be pretty small also

Can you remove the head off that tripod to use something different?

The head removes so you can put it on the bottom of the vertical shaft. It is not a standard thread however so a heavier replacement head might be available through Manfrotto. I'll see if I can locate one but my initial answer would be no...

I see, personally I like the ball heads more than the grip ones like that. I would be very interested in that tripod if I could stick a different head on it.

Thanks!

Tamrac has that Sling deal, might not hold a DSLR with large lens, but it's small
