Tripod + head suggestions for hiker

12 years 11 months ago #56209 by Be Mine 4ever
So I would like to start looking for a good tripod and head to take on day hikes. I don't want to spend the $300 for a carbon fiber either, so I'm hoping I can find a decent aluminum one for about $100 to $150?

Vanguard who is also a site sponsor has a number of tripods in that price range. Might be worth looking at.

One of the great all-time tripods for $100 is the Tilt-all. The older ones by Marchioni and Leitz are better made than the new ones and can be found fairly cheap on eBay. Not a super light tripod, but quite sturdy.

Wooden tripods are light and can be found used as well. Look for Ries or Berlebach. They have the same vibration absorption factor as the new carbon fibers for less $$$.

You know what works for me and is light weight and small is the Joby Gorilla pod, this thing is small and it works great. Granted you aren't 5' or 6' off the ground with it, but you can wrap this around tree's and such.

Nikon Z6 | Nikon FM10 | Nikon D80 | Nikon 50mm f/1.8D | Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S VR | 35-105mm f/3.5 Macro | 80-200mm f/4.5 | SB600 | Pocket Wizard II

LOL I just sent a email asking about these things. Over time will those legs get loose? I would be using for wild life photography.
