Copyright © 2012 Eye-Fi, IncEye-Fi has introduced its Mobile X2 memory card, the latest in a line-up of models, including the Connect X2 and Pro X2, that make it possible to transfer photos directly from a digital camera to an iPhone, iPad or Android device loaded with Eye-Fi’s free mobile client. A USB cable or Apple’s Camera Connection Kit is not required.

According to media reports, this technology allows those with traditional digital cameras to upload images to Instagram, Facebook, TwitPic and other photo-sharing sites. Some, newer digital cameras include a Wi-Fi capability, but users can only transfer photos to sites the camera manufacturer wrote into the software.

The new Mobile X2 memory card has 8GB of storage space, but doesn’t support RAW image files. Neither does the Connect X2, which has 4GB of memory. The Pro X2 card features 8GB of storage and accepts the RAW file format. The Mobile X2 is priced at $79; the Connect X2, $49; and the Pro X2, $99.
